I reformatted my HDD using NTFS loading XP. I loaded AVG
and a Dell original modem driver. After each install, my
system would freeze when I tried to use system restore to
set a restore point. I unloaded both and my Dell
dimension 2350 worked well. I've ran Dell diagnostics
and Seagate Seatools; they show everytthing is ok. I've
scanned disk (which seems intermittent) several times, ran
Norton's Win Doctor. I think I may have a problem with
NTFS. Help is needed thank you very much.

Norton WinDoctor causes more problems in XP. It will delete stuff that it
sees as orphaned just because the associations for that file aren't active.
Try the system file checker. Go>start\run and type in sfc /scannow. You will
need to have your XP disk handy and install it when prompted to do so. Close
any autoplay windows that come up after you install the disk and then click
the ok button. Be sure to put a space after sfc and before the / This does
a System File Check and will restore any missing or corrupt OS files with the
ones on the disk. {]:~)
