Dead KK266-R or Athlon 850?

My previously reliable (1.5 years) KK266-R with unlocked Athlon 850 @ 866 appears to have died. It locked up in Paint Shop Pro, wouldn't soft boot and then upon pressing "reset", never came to life again. It now powers up, all fans spin, green LED lights on motherboard, but nothing else happens. The CD-RW drive light flashes for a few seconds, but not the HD or floppy. The monitor never gets a signal, and there are no beeps. To make it power off again, I must push and hold the power button. I think this means the motherboard isn't completely dead.

I'm assuming it is the CPU or the motherboard itself. I will try a few diagnostic tricks (100mhz fsb, R&R Heatsink and CPU, check my unlock paint, etc.). If I can't make a difference, I'll take the CPU in for testing at the local shop. I hope that's all it is. I've been eyeing a 1.4 or maybe even risk trying a 1600 XP.

Any other suggestions?

Fixed! I guess that defrost repair paint isn't as permanent as I'd hoped. Maybe it's a bit too thick so cracked off like thick paint.

At least it was an easy fix.
