A friend of mine has an SL75KAVX mobo. He just upgraded his CPU to an XP1800+ and set the jumpers on the mobo accordingly (133 MHz CPU external clock, 266 MHz FSB). Everything works fine, but when starting the computer the bios reports the CPU as an XP1900+ Further the CPU temperature is about 60-65 degrees when idle. Whats wrong?

I have AMD 1800 or whichever AMD XP version that runs on 1.5 ghz. I have stock fan and on a semi warm room, and it is 45C.

Did you use silver paste and the paste that was on the stock fan? that could be it (both on it can cause high temps).

A 5 foot work fan, plastic sheeting for the funnel, some tubing, and duct tape is all you need for a cooling system.

Do you really think my friend got a wrong CPU? Actually I was thinking that some weird BIOS setup was causing overclocking which would explain the high temperature.
I didnt mount the CPU myself, so I cannot verify the CPU model without removing the heatsink. Is there another way I can figure out if this infact is an XP1800+ ?

The shop mounted the CPU for my friend, so neither of us knows whether there is used proper thermal paste. But I may have to remove the heatsink to verify the CPU model. So I will make sure to have some proper paste in hand when I do that.
