Hi,
a friend and I are putting together a new system based around the following hardware:-
AMD Athlon XP 1600
Gigabyte GA-7VR Motherboard
Nvidia Geforce 4 MX420 64mb Graphics card
Coolermaster Cooler ( capable of cooling up to 2.2ghz)
256mb Samsung DDR RAM
20gb 5400 rpm Maxtor Hard disc
DVD ROM
300w Generic power supply

Now the problem, everything is fitted fine. However when we power on the fans turn, the lights go on, then about 10 seconds later the thing goes off again. We've tried a different power supply yet no joy. Anyone got any ideas coz we're out of them. Thanks in advance,
James

Give me more info on your mobo:Is it a 7vrx? Revision number (found on mobo Rev 1 or 1.1 or 2.0). Is your Heat sink and fan installed properly? if not your processor will overheat uickly and shutdown.

The motherboard revision number is 1001. It is a Gigabyte GA-7VR and the CPU and heatsink have been fitted according to the motherboards instructions. The only difference being the manual recommends the use of thermal paste as well as the thermal compound on the heat sink( we just used the stuff on the strip on the heat sink). Would this have made a difference?
And there are no beeps from the speaker.
