i845G chipset and DDR333 support??

I'm a bit confused. :-(

I'm looking to buy a new P4 mainboard with DDR333 memory support (afaik DDR333 is also denoted as PC2700), I had a look at the THG website and found the articles about the i845G chipset which states it supports this type of memory.

I'm looking to buy an Asus mainboard [the P4B533-V(M)] for instance, as I have very good experiences with Asus in the past. I went to the Asus and after that the Intel websites to find out more about this chipset.
Much to my surprise I found at both of these websites that the fastest memory supported by the i845G chipset is PC2100 (DDR266)

To be sure I checked also on the MSI website and again PC2100 is mentioned as max memory support. So now I'm confused, does or doesn't this chipset support PC2700. And if so why don't these manufacturers state this on their websites, especially Intel??

Please help?

It is a little confusing. Basically Intel will only "validate" the i845G to DDR266. However you can "overclock" the memory clock to 166MHz which would give you DDR333. THG (and probably other places) have reported success in doing this. Intel has introduced new chipsets (i845PE & i845PG?) which officially supports DDR333. The early buzz seem to be very positive on these new Intel sets. As for me, I didn't want to wait and instead got a ASUS P4S8X which uses SiS648 chipset. In my hands this has work well (to DDR333 with "mildly" agressive memory timing), but others have reported some difficults. Also SiS 645(DX) will also support DDR333.

There are too many global idiots in the global village!

Thank you for the answer, now a least I know what the situation is with this chipset. I will have a look at those new chipsets you mentioned.
