Windows Not Shutting Down

Any ideas as to why Windows XP Pro would start hanging up when shutting
down? You get the last few screens; "Windows is saving your settings",
"Windows is closing your network connections", "Windows is shutting down",
and then it goes blue screen and just stays there. The only thing to do is
turn off the computer manually by holding the power button for about six
seconds. Any way to find out what is causing this hang up?

Hi

For shutdown/restart problems, please have a look at MVP Jim Eshelman's web
site:

In addition to what Will has posted, check Power Options for an APM tab. If
found, check that APM is enabled. On systems with an older version of power
management, this is not enabled by default and it is needed if you want the
machine to power itself off at shutdown.
