Hey all, I'm planning on building a whole new system in the next couple months. I know that Microsoft will have Service Pack 2 out soon and I was wondering if it makes any difference in terms of performance or problems with the OS if I was to wait until I get a "new" version of XP, complete with SP2 already part of it vs. buying a current copy of XP and just downloading SP2 when it becomes available. Thanks for any insight.
SP-2 release has been pushed back into the 3rd quarter of this year. If you don't mind waiting 3-4 months for your next system, then go ahead. I still wouldn't wait. Even if you bought it preassembled it might not come with SP-2 installed for a while after the release.
If I were sure, I would have answered, but I knew someone who was sure would.
Personally, I hate it when a question is asked and the answer is, what do you think back, duh, if I knew I would not have asked.

Its a matter of a personal desire or what does person wants at THIS point of time. If he really needs a PC, then there is no reason to wait for Longhorn or Shorthorn release to get myself busy with having "fun" with PC. If he wants a "better" OS and would like to wait, again there is no reason for that, caz as I've said above, it is non-stop process, there will be something better all the time. So, it is up to him to make up his mind, which is really simple, DO you NEED or DO you NOT need a PC at all?
PS: I am using win2k which is 4 years old, and will use it until there will not be software development for it, which is about 4-5 years ahead. No XP needed, caz I need a working PC RIGHT NOW, and care less about 3.9847563845 FPS in UT with newer SP that comes out in half a year.
..this is very useful and helpful place for information...
