I recently formatted my system, and installed all of the latest drivers. I run an AMD X2 3800+ , 2 gigs DDR400 Ram, an 8800GTS 320mb and Windows XP. I get absolutely horrible framerates, in the crysis beta I never get over 20 fps while running medium settings on 1024x768. As well as in Bioshock, Counter Strike Source, and Medal of honor Airborne I am getting low FPS.

I got to thinking, I only have a 400w PSU, could this be the issue? Could a PSU be the cause of low performance for a system that is decently mid - high end?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

It could very well be the cause, could you get something else than the wattage (Which is as good as nothing)? we need brand, model, and 12V ratings to be able to tell.

That thing can never power a GTS properly, you are lucky that the system even boots up. Try a high quality, powerful unit like this instead:

Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, TUV, CE, FCC, CCC, CB, C-tick - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] eohe%2b550

This unit can output 42A on the 12V+ rails, there's no single card setup that this unit can't power up, so you'll be fine for a long time to come.
