I am a first time buyer of PC. I have some expirience, but
frankly I'm confused. Local dealers offer Asus, GigaByte,
ChainTech and MicroStar boards.

I wouldn't bother anyone with this, but I almost have no
choice but to ask for most direct answers possible.

I want a mobo that has proven itself in user community
to being stable, well featured, does a P4 and DDR mem +
onboard 5.1 sound/LAN.

I've heard of complaints about Asus boards, found some
articles about not working dual-BIOS features with GA and
Epox being the best but not available here.

I'm limiting muself only to mobos available at local
dealers.

Here's the list :
- Asus P4B533-E
- Gigabyte 8IR533
- Chaintec 9BID

Thanks.

Best advice that I could give you is not to buy a board based on availability at the local store...The online stores are just a click away. That means that any board is closer than your store...And I would bet money that it will be cheaper also...If you are worried about white box items, you can still by retail items cheaper than your local store...To point you in the right direction...www.pricewatch.com. It will give you the best prices on hardware around...I have had excellent luck with everything I have bought from newegg.com.

Hope this helps

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard someone blame some problem on the computer...I would be a very rich man.

Of those boards I'd probably go with the P4B533-E. But then again, I have more choices, because I'm not limited to local dealers. Besides that I do work for a dealer, he sources parts for me and I source parts for him.
