Mac and windows 7

I am trying to connect three macs running Os 10.4 and 10.6 to a windows 7 pc connected via usb to an HP printer for print shainf--i'm told this isn't possible but several older posts here say it is--can anyone enlighten me--the older post pathways don't shoe up in the windows dialaogs
