WPA Router advice

After WLAN trials with an Netgear Router and an DLink Access point
that I myself only got working on a day on day off basis (I always
ruined the configuration, not knowing what went wrong, a professional
helped, but this lasted only till the nextneccessary XP home
re-installation)

I do want to try it out anew: This time with WPA even if I managed
sofar to get the WLAN running only without even WEP. But obviously not
sending the SSID, and a MAC list will not prevent any real wardriving
attempts.

Therefore the question, what cheap Access Point/Router is the most
approriate for me, WPA and a halfway decent manual a must?
