Recently my DIY computer has been making alot of noise. I assumed by its noise it was a fan that was broken. I opened the case and was sad to see it was not one of the normal case fans but instead the fan on the Northbridge of the chipest. The exact fan in this picture http://www17.tomshardware.com/mainboard/02q3/020722/images/gigabyte4.jpg . My motherboard is the 8IEXP. My question is: is there a solution to this, or can i find a replacement quickly and cheaply? The sound gets really loud and is on my nerves.

Any and all help is appreciated.

If you dont overclock, I think its quiet safe to remove it altogether.

frailimbnursry,

My GA-8IEXP also got the same problem. I think the annoying noise came from the vibration of metal housing of the northbridge fan because when I pressed the housing with my thumb real hard, the noise would go away. It's hard to believe Gigabyte used such cheap fan in one of their then top of the line mobos.

BTW, do you use the front audio connector as well as the IDE3/4 for RAID setup? I have some problems in those two areas and hopefully can get some advice from you.

Thanks.

Unfortunately no I do not use the raid setup, and if by front audio connector you mean the built-in sound capability (which I do not use), or the (I'm not sure of what it is called) part that connects to a speaker within the case (which I have hooked up)?

Thermaltake makes a replacement chipset HSF.

Yes, get the replacement that fugger posted. I have replaced the fan on two asus motherboards for the northbridge chipset, and have not had any probelms with them since...plus those replacement fans are pretty cheap in price. :D
