i bought a firewire 3 port pci card and slapped it in the available pci slot. turned on pc and it was automatically installed and recognised by windows xp.
restarted pc and experienced long start up time but eventually got to desktop BUT THEN IT CRASHES and following message window pops up:
HP Ai0 Device Object Server
Register (InssObjectsfailed: hRes = 0x800706135
The interface is Unkmown
Maximum retry attempts exceeded
Step one, remove the firewire card and see if the system boots. If not, try booting into safe mode, it loads a minimum of "stuff" and poke around and seee whats up.
Do like mrmonsoon said and take the firewire card out of the computer. And then see if the computer will boot up. If it does, it's not a problem with windows. Make sure that the card is XP compatible and that you have the latest drivers from the manufacturers web site.

Sorry for not answering for awhile, had problems with my own rig-turned out to be bad m/b.
I am going to repeat, first, remove the firewire card.
Try to boot normally-Yes-bad card in one way or another.
No-boot into safe mode and remove anysoftware and or drivers for the card. Reboot the computer and try to go in normally.
Ok lets try this, boot into safe mode and get to device manager (right click my computer, properties,in system properties box choose hardware, device manager) and see if the card is still listed. If it is , right click on it and choose uninstall ( I am thinking maybe xp doesn't know it's gone) and then reboot. let me know the results.
Try running memtest86, available here and test your memory. could be u messed something else up when installing or removing the PCI card.

If you have or can you make a windows 98 boot disk that will work. If not go to the website of your harddrive manufacturer. Most have a program that can be download and put on a floppy disk. You boot to it, it will load a simple os and go from their.
"FAIR WARNNING" microsoft does not like partions made from other software and you may have a problem with that.
Hope that helped.
