Register or log in to remove.

Step one, remove the firewire card and see if the system boots. If not, try booting into safe mode, it loads a minimum of "stuff" and poke around and seee whats up.

booted into 'safe mode' went to system restore and the following error window message pops up:

SYSTEM RESTORE IS NOT ABLE TO PROTECT YOUR
COMPUTER. PLEASE RESTART AND TRY SYSTEM RESTORE
AGAIN.

I did that but im still getting the above message.
what shall i do?

Do like mrmonsoon said and take the firewire card out of the computer. And then see if the computer will boot up. If it does, it's not a problem with windows. Make sure that the card is XP compatible and that you have the latest drivers from the manufacturers web site.

Sorry for not answering for awhile, had problems with my own rig-turned out to be bad m/b.
I am going to repeat, first, remove the firewire card.
Try to boot normally-Yes-bad card in one way or another.
No-boot into safe mode and remove anysoftware and or drivers for the card. Reboot the computer and try to go in normally.

Update us and we will go from there.

rebooted into safe mode and strangely and cant see the devive software/drivers to uninstall?

anyway system restore doesnt work in safe mode so i REPAIRED XP FROM THE SUPPLIED CD Then everything was fine.

but......

WHEN I RESTART THE PC THE SAME BLIMEY PROBLEM EXPLAINED IN THE FIRST POST HAPPENS AGAIN AND AGAIN.

PLEASE HELP?

Ok lets try this, boot into safe mode and get to device manager (right click my computer, properties,in system properties box choose hardware, device manager) and see if the card is still listed. If it is , right click on it and choose uninstall ( I am thinking maybe xp doesn't know it's gone) and then reboot. let me know the results.

i did that but already mentioned strangely the card is not listed under device manager.

anyway i cant take this anymore so i did a fresh install of windows but there is a error during fresh installation:

setup encountered fatal error...

please help!!

Reply to mAtRiXrIpOfF

Did you distroy the previous partion and create anew one for your fresh install?

Reply to mrmonsoon

i destroyed the previous partition.

Try running memtest86, available here and test your memory. could be u messed something else up when installing or removing the PCI card.

hi,

how do i format my hard drive by not using the supplied windows CD.

Reply to mAtRiXrIpOfF

What windows?

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

If you have or can you make a windows 98 boot disk that will work. If not go to the website of your harddrive manufacturer. Most have a program that can be download and put on a floppy disk. You boot to it, it will load a simple os and go from their.
"FAIR WARNNING" microsoft does not like partions made from other software and you may have a problem with that.
Hope that helped.
:)
