I have heard on other forums that there may be a new firmware rev for the LG
VX 4400 (version 11).

All the phones I am responsible for at this point have version 10. Does
anybody have version 11 and/or know anything about what it fixes?

It is my understanding that another provider (US Cellular) uses odd number
firmware, and that Verizon doesn't use odd numbers.

Verizon (Hawthorne, California) just gave me version 11 this evening
in response to a performance complaint.

Do you find it any better?

I have a feeling/fear, that our "performance complaints" are really the
result of VZ having taken on too many new subscribers and over-using
their cell sites since number portability.

I had mine udated to #11 and reception went way down. My wifes phone
would be showing full scale digital while I had analog. The store
tried everything and ended up giving me another phone that was
revision #10.

INTERESTING - I'd been having a lot of reception problems and VZ swapped
out my phone - they gave me v. 10 and I went back tot he store so they
could update it to v 11.

Then reception got even worse. Since there were problems anyway, I
didn't think it was the revision.

The phone had other problems and I swapped it out again. This time,
partially on a hunch and partially out of exhuastion, I didn't bother to
have it upgraded from rev 10 to rev 11 and reception has been ok.

Perhaps rev 11 has a serious problem? If more people answer, I think
we'll know....

Things I have noticed about ver 11 firmware on VX4400:

1. Dropping to no service in full strength 1x native verizon areas
fixed. (This was principal complaint).
2. Earpiece levels seem lower.
3. Service change notice beep seems quieter.
4. Front body of phone (i.e. keypad area) does not heat so much during
long duration calls. (Secondary original complaint)
5. Suspect, but not enough tests yet, that auto earpiece volume
function is less aggressive (good if true).

I concur with the earpiece volume being lower. In fact, it never
occurred to me it was the software upgrade and I swapped out the phone
because I found it too low on noisy NYC streets.

Contrary to your experience, I find my signal more stable with version
10 than I did with version 11.

When I swapped out the phone, on a hunch, I didn't have them update the
software and I think I'll keep it that way.
