Running a KG7-RAID with 1 GIG PC2100 DDR and Athlon 1.4GHZ.

Before I dump this RIG I want to know if it were possible to use the paper launched XP 2800 processor without having to change memory or anything else.

Thanx.

The 266Mhz memory you mentioned may have a problem running synchroneous with the 333MHz FSB of the 2800+. I suggest a 2400+ (266MHz FSB), which is available now from NewEgg. Then, in increments, increase the FSB and memory speed synchroneously until you achieve a system that is both fast and stable. Here is an oververclocking guide.

Hey D,

If Abit & your Bios Chip maker come up with a new bios that allows you to use a XP-2800+, yeah it would be ok to use the same DDR as you have now. It is the same as running a XP-1500+ with PC1600 DDR. All the DDR is backwards compatible.

My question is this: Why would you want to get a faster CPU? Is there anything that you think a XP 2800+ would do that much faster in your setup than your Athlon 1.4?

The Truth: Wait until the XP-2800+'s are out, then check the Abit Bios/Download website, or email them with this question, do not trust what some joker who thinks he knows it all(like me), to tell you what you can & cannot run in the future.

Peace Out.............tile

god knows your entire system setup & he would answer your questions if he could just stop laughing

No. You need mobo that is capable running 166MHz FSB (333DDR) when KG7 is not (and it doesn't have a neccessary 5/1 PCI divider to prevent your components being overclocked).

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

Thanx for the info guys.... I just wanted to hang on to this system until the end. It is running nice and stable now and works well for the only game I play "Counter Strike" and Half Life Deathmatch.

Really have it loaded to the max with Ultra-160 SCSI a Cheetah X15 Ultra 160 Drive, Audigy Gamer, a Ti-4600 etc.

I plan on getting the last fastest XP processor for it, then would do NO upgrades for a LONG time, unless the new CounterStrike needed it.
