Hi everyone

I'm having a rather urgent issue here, I'd really appreciate any and
all help you could give me.

We've been using an HP 1537 DAT drive for daily backups for quite a
while now, and while overall it works fine, there are some
irregularities in its response from time to time - unit will 'block
up' after certain sequences of operations, refure to recognize tapes,
die altogether (it comes back on power on), etc.

Yesterday I decided to address this (which to me is a software issue),
and surfed over to HP's site and downloaded LTT and what should be the
newest drivers for the device (which, BTW, is identified as C1555D
-iirc- on some of the paperwork I dug up).

Windows recognizes it -or rather recognized it- as an 'HP C1537A SCSI
Sequential Device'.

Now, these new drivers, they didn't work. The system addressed the
unit mostly OK, but there were even more hiccups and non-recognized
tapes than before. So today I thought I'd return to the original
drivers (the ones Windows provides).

I uninstalled the HP device, hoping on reintalling I'd have a chance
to pick the old drivers, but alas .. they're not there anymore.

I tried everything. I directed the Hardware Wizard to the INF folder
on another server to see if it picked up from there, nothing. I moved
the .inf files which (apparently) reference the new drivers out of the
INF folder -no luck. It did make a difference in that then it wouldn't
find ANY drivers.

I tried the W2K installation CD. Nothing there either. I sent the
thing out to Windows Update to look for drivers. Nothing. Searching
the Internet turns up.. nothing.

So I'm at a loss, basically. The chances of squeezing a backup today
are impossibly slim, but one way or the other I seriously need to get
this working.

Please, if anyone could help me I'd appreciate it very very much.

Thanks in advance,

Damián
