Ok I am planning on building my first Pc and i wanna know what you guys wanna help me fill in some blanks

CPU: p4 2.53
Mobo: _________(i would like raid 0, lan, audio, and ez overclockability for cpu, mem, and gpu)
Memory: corsair xms 3200 = 1 gig
hard drive: 2 80 gig wd special editions
video card: waiting for nv30 =(
case: xaser II 6000a with 430 ps

so i need a good mobo that will work with this setup, and preferably has onboard raid, lan, audio, and ez to overclock, and will let me run my corsair at 400mhz

Gigabyte GA-8SG667, under $100, and a cheap RAID card for around $40.

No RAID with Gigabyte GA-8SG667. At least as far as I know as Crashman is more knowledgable about computers than I. I recommend GIGABYTE GA-8PE667 ULTRA motherboard. Good day, all!

Yes I went by his memory demands alone, since there are no boards that properly support that memory and have RAID. I just added the RAID card to my recommendation based on your reminder, thanks!

I went to gigabytes website and found they don't support 512 ddr400 from corsair, and with 256 sticks, i could only use 3...any other ideas for a different mobo?

It doesn't necessarily mean that the Corsair RAM won't work in the 8SG667. It may mean that Gigabyte hasn't fully tested it yet. What applications are you using that would warrant 1GB of RAM anyway?

Question : Dear Support Desk,

According to your GA-8SG667 DDR400 (PC3200) recommended memory modules list, 512MB Kingston KVR400X64C25/512 (with 2 DIMMs) is one of them. I've looked over and over still couldn't find that stick anywhere on the Kingston MB support list. I called and asked Kingston support desk what
is going on between GA-8SG667 and KVR400X64C25/512, and also mentioned about GA DDR400 Memory Recommended list to them. We are testing it, they said.
I hear too many good things about Corsair CMX DDR400 C2 but not with Kingston's. What are your opinions on that?
Which memory will and should be stable for GA-8SG667? If your answers are not satisfy me then I'll go for Asus MB. Your consideration are highly appreciated

First off i play a lotta games and doom III is coming out so i don't wanna take any chances being hella laggy in a 32 man ffa =), plus in my current q3 games i like to demo when i play so in case i pull of some cool stuff i can make a video of it and thx for the GA-8PE667 Ultra recomendation

Your ISP will have more to do with lagginess than your RAM. If the most intensive thing you do is play games online then 512MB will be more than enough RAM.

thx HN001 but i looked at the GA-8PE667 Ultra and it looks like it has all the stuff i need, and i have a way newb question, how come mobo's say they can only have like 200 266 333mhz ram but then someone said they were running 400 mhz on it...is it that they haven't tested that ram?

Whatever you have now with PC100 SDRAM is not in the same league as the 8SG667 with a P4 2.53 and DDR. It's the slowness of your processor and RAM that is causing the choppiness (not to be confused with lag). Trust me. You will do just fine with 512MB of that Corsair RAM.

1Gb of fast ram is real overkill for 98% of the PC world. 512Mb is pleanty in a fast system for gaming video editing etc.

He was explaining that the choppyness you have now is most likely a bottle neck with your ISP or cpu. ram is probly least likely to be the problem. and with a 2.53 plus the ddr ram, you should be smoking. But then again, if you have the money, when it comes to computers the numbers are never high enough.
