Putting Icon Shortcuts on the Taskbar

Hi People,
a bit of help please, how do I drag a short cut to the taskbar, I have done
it before, but had to reinstall, and now when I drag an icon to the task bar
I get a can't do sign. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Right click on the task bar, click to remove the check mark - Lock Task Bar.

Click Tool Bars, click Quick Launch,

Try dragging your Icons onto the Quick launch area.
