isnt there a key command, Player8X, or something like that, a single
player can enter into the talk console, to make the game harder, and
get more experience per monster kill?

I had fun with it in the 1.10 beta. I had that unkillable pally, and I
would go on throne room runs with him in hell mode, players 8. Of
course, the OKs got him a lot, but they got him a lot at players 1 :)

This is a good tool to use for a while. Up to about act IV I think. If
it gets to hard to play just back down to /player 5 or so.

Yes.
Open the chat screen by hitting enter.
type /players 8
Boom, there you go, Bob's your uncle.
btw, that is a space after the s and before the number
Oh, and personally, I usually switch back to /players 2 or something before
attempting to kill the act's end boss, yes, this can lessen the number of
items that drop, but, it also lessens the chance of *me* dropping (dead),
hehe.
This works on monsters that have not spawned yet, so if you already see them
on the screen, changing things then and there will not affect those but will
affect the next bunch you come across.

IMEHCE, doing this right from the start makes you so much higher level
that you get hit much less often, have more hp, etc., so dying is not
actually much more likely than at players 1, unless you try to play
like players 1. The extra players only add 1/2 the hp, so at players
8, the monsters only have 4.5x their base hp. It takes longer to kill
them, sure, but they give a lot more xp and drops. It's an
interesting way to play. I have an ironman sorc playing at players 8,
and so far, no real problems. Not even with mana! We'll see how far
she gets, and what the limiting factor is.

Yes there is. I believe it's "players 8" (without the "). I think you can
use any number between 1-8, to simulate the desired number of players
(including yourself).

Seems to work on chests and barrels you have seen already, though. Or is
it just me imagining things?

Yes it does, but obviously you must do it before you open them, AFAIK that
(when you open it/them) is when it 'rolls' for what to drop, whereas it
rolls for monsters when they spawn, not when they are killed.

a nice use for this trick is in Hell Lower Kurast. Clear the area of
monsters at /players 1, then switch to players 8 and open all chests,
barrels and other stuff..
