I just installed Cod4 and when I try to run the single player mode nothing happens . . i just see a quick flicker on the desktop but the game doesnt launch. When I try to run it again, it gives me this message:
"It appears that cod4 did not quit properly the last time it ran. Do you want to run the game in safe mode?"
Mulitplayer seems to work fine and when I try to switch to single player from the multiplayer menu the same thing happens, it just goes back to my desktop and that message shows up again. Any suggestions? I'm running this on winXP pro sp2. My other specs are: athlon 64 x2 5200+, 8800gt SSC, 2gb ram, ecs nforce4ma. Thanks for the help.

Uninstall, run Chkdsk /F, restart, defrag, then try reinstalling. You might have some bad sectors on your HDD.

I had the same problem but it was with a hacked version of call of duty. I just changed the no dvd crack that i was using to a different one and it worked just fine.
