I just signed up with Verizon and so far I am very happy with the service
and the phone I got. My father however has had Verizon wireless for about 4
years and still owns an outdated phone. I was wondering if he could get a
comparable phone to mine. I got the LG VX4600. What limits if any does
Verizon put on the cost of the phone upgrade for this offer?

I'd go find a Verizon Service Center (not a franchise) and ask what
kind of deal they can give you. I have New every Two on my primary
phone. When we went in to exchange it for a new one, the Motorola I
chose had a rebate, bringing the total cost to less than the $100
allowance. So they swapped my wife's phone for free at the same time.
I think they've got lots of "wriggle room" because they are making
their money on the service, not the sales of phones.

It's supposedly $100 allowance but my latest phone was priced at over $200
off regular. I'm sure he can get something comparable to yours for a great
price but they are probably going to require a new contract.

They lose money on the sale of handsets, which is why they only want to
"give" you a replacement every two years. It cost most carriers $200-$300
to get a new customer, mostly due to subsidizing the cost of the handset.

You forgot to mention the budget for the never-ending string of TV
advertisements. ;-(
