Forum Windows XP : General Discussion unread e-mails at logon screen

Hi

I have XP home (Don't shudder my G-friends PC)

Anyway there are three accounts on this PC.

At the fast logon screen (with the funny icons) account 2
has the unread e-mails of account 1 visible.

Please help me get rid of this.

Info.

No mail software in use, only web mail.
As far as I can see account 2 was used by account 1 owner
and the e-mail was checked using account 1's details....
this seems inbedded for some reason... (I am confused now
are you??)

As account three was created after this point and is PW
protected it does not have this problem.

I could recreate account 2 but I may get shot if I do....
Somewhere in the registry there must be a key that
controls this and therefore be deleted or altered.

Please assist

Hi

You can download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp [...] ertoys.asp and when
installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go to
Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Otherwise the Unread Mail can be disabled via the Registry - navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Youremailaddress],
double click on 'MessageCount' - in the right hand pane - and change the
value to 0(Zero).

***If you do opt for the Registry please 'tweak', please backup the Registry
first. A good program to do this - as well as being able to restore it - is

Download and install TweakUI:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP (TweakUI)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp [...] rtoys.mspx

After installing, go to Start > Programs > PowerToys for Windows XP >
TweakUI. Expand "Logon" and uncheck "Show unread mail on Welcome screen".

Note: Unread message alerts may indicate you have unread messages not only
in Outlook Express, but Hotmail and/or MSN email accounts as well.
