I learned of the existence of the subject mainboard earlier today at http://www.viamainboard.com/product/P4PB_Ultra.jsp and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has worked with one. I'm in the midst of putting a computer together for family use and this board seems to fit my needs.

Sure it fits your needs, if your needs are to support patent infringement in an effort to get lower stability and lower performance than other boards provide.

If you want cheap get the Asus P4S533, it's a solid board. If you want cheap with newer features get the Gigabyte GA-8SG667.
