Windows 7 64 bit over 32 bit

Last response: in Windows 7

I just came from the electronics store with Windows 7 64 bit full version. (incidentally $139.99 Builder Pack). The Tech/Salesman convinced me that I could install 64 bit on my system even though my system is 34 bit and it would be to my advantage. I am too technically naive to really believe that. Did he tell me the truth?

He told you the truth. Your sytem is capable of running a 64-bit OS even though it is currently running a 32-bit one. It'll have to be a fresh install rather than an upgrade, but that's no bad thing. Just make sure that you copy any important data onto a DVD or external drive first as the install will overwtire your current disk.

Your old OS is 32 bit but you CPU E6600 support 64 bit OS fine so with a Full 64 bit OS you should have no problem. Like ijack said, back up all your important files.

Also I would advised to downloads drivers for your parts for 64 bit OS. GPU drivers, MOBO driver and whatever applications that you used before and see if they have 64 bit version.
