pff, never ending question. the plastation 1 lasted for years, but nowerdays something like that is updating every 2 or 3 years. ou can't keep it up anyway, so why don't you buy it? a console you can't update like a computer! are they still bringing new games out on xbox 1? i only see games for ps2 but xbox?

My neverending recomendation: Buy based on the games you want.

It's that simple.

A dramaticaly new xbox is NOT coming out this winter. Maybe some light hardware updates to fix problems, and to sell it for cheaper.

I dunno who the heck suggested that next winter would see a new Xbox. Historically, a new generation of consoles has come every 5 years; it's held true since the first generation. (i.e, the Magnavox Odyssey) around 1975. And this is now the 7th generation, beginning as of 2005 with the Xbox 360's release.

Hence, it's incredibly unlikely that we'll see any new consoles until 2010. And likely, given the situations surrounding this generation, they may put it off until 2011.

As for getting an Xbox 360... As mentioned, do it PURELY for what you'd want to do on it. If there's no games for it that you really want, then buying one would simply be a waste no matter the time and price. Ditto for Xbox Live; ask yourself if you're really play enough on it to warrant the price of a typical new game ($50US) every year for the service.

I think what people are talking about is the much rumored Xbox 360 Ulitimate. It's a 360 which will supposedly have a 320GB HDD, HDMI, and built in HD-DVD drive. This console is supposed to come out end of summer 2008. As for a official confirmation none have been given yet but people at microsoft and saying such a console won't happen. Honestly if such a system were ever released it would cost over $550, more than a PS3. The 360 Arcade (bare bones non-backwards compatible 360) cost $280. The Xbox 360 Pro cost $350 and the Xbox Elite (Black 360 with 120GB HDD and HDMI cable included) cost $450. Now for an Xbox to come out with a 320GB drive AND built in HD-DVD drive would be well over $500 to $550 cause the separate HD-DVD drive for any 360 cost $180. This system would basically be a updated Elite with a $180 built in drive. So your looking at dropping a hell of a lot of cash, why when you can either buy a $400 buck PS3 that plays blue-ray out the box. As for a new console? We won't even see talk of any new console till about 2010/2011. The 360's have been out on the market for 2 years and the PS3 only a year and 2 months. A new 4th generation console released ealier than 2010/11 would not be a smart move since both these consoles have yet to be pushed to thier ultimate limits.

And let's not forget the Wii as well, what with it being solidly the best-selling console of this generation.

well what i heard at bestbuy was that microsoft stopped shipping 360's since christmas because they're working on releasing a new version of the 360 (like falcon differs from the original).
