Yo guys, just wondering who here makes music either with their computers or some other recording gear? If so, what kind, what gear, etc...

Does anyone have anything decent recorded they'd like to share with us?

I always record myself playing the guitar to see what I need to improve on, etc. But I don't think anyone would want to hear that. I can barely stand it myself.

Look out for #1. Don't step in #2 either.

My best friend ows a recording studio. 24track digital, Macke board, Alesis adat xt system. Lots of cool efx. I personally am just a sound engineer at heart. Have been a soundman for bands since high school. With a little recording with some small local bands.

Can't play anything or sing a note that dosent hurt. but I can set up a stage in an hour or less for most bar bands.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Hey Red. I haven’t been recording anything for around 2 years but me and a friend recorded over 15 original songs before we went out separate ways. (Being in a band is such a pain in the ass sometimes) Then I got married + new job + new house etc. I love writing and recording my own stuff. I just started jamming with some friends so at least I’m playing my bass more and starting to write and recording a new set of songs in the hope of that one elusive great.

The last solo song I did was called bridge http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/10/logickill.html I recorded it with DOP (not that great) and my old crappy ensoniq sound card. Download the MP3 version and crank it up for maximum effect. BTW I played all instruments (bass & guitar, nice bass but a really crappy guitar) and programmed the drums and synth. And yes that is me singing (or attempting to). It will at least give you an idea if the style I am going for.

Right now I’m using Sonar with an SW1000xg along with xgedit and a midi loopback program to make it all work together. The learning curve is pretty steep and I’m struggling a bit learning to harness all the MIDI prowess available. This new setup should sound way better with almost no noise.

It’s just scary how easy it is to let a year or two slip by just living life never recording a thing. I’m going to try and put some serious effort into getting back in it. Somebody mentioned making a game here at THG but that was the last I heard. I think it would be a lot of fun making music for games like Diablo.

Thx & Cya

Mackie? Ugh.

I laid out the equipment I work with in another thread, I'll see if I can find it.

Very nice, a little Trent Reznor in there.

I'm very impressed by your bass playing, quite dynamic!

As far as making a game, that would be quite difficult, but the music would for sure be fun. My cousin's husband actually does that for, EA I think it is.

Best music from a game (besides the obvious ones like Metal Gear Solid 2) was from Tenchu: Stealth Assasins on the PSOne. Full array of organic musicians!

Hey man, the preamps on the VLZ series are quite sweet for the price. If you're gonna drop a lot of cash, maybe not, but Mackie makes some solid stuff for mid-level setups.

Thx, NIN is one of my favorite artists.

You remember the music for Descent II, That was some good game music (probably would sound a little dated now thou).

Dose you cousin’s husband make a lot of money working for EA?

That would be a dream job for me.

you must be thinking of behringer? btw, nice of you to post your chuch's donated setup, too bad you can't take it home huh?

No, I'm thinking of Mackie, makers of some of the worst sounding consoles around.

No, the system was not donated, and it wouldn't fit in my house very well anyway.

Oh boy, I never thought I'd side with AMDMeltdown over FatBurger, but I have to agree, Mackie makes some decent stuff dude.

Behringer, while not all bad, makes the cheapest junk available (aside for Yorkville and low end Peavey)

I would know, I have a Mackie board and a Eurodesk (behringer). But yeah, what's this about the church setup? Are you the engineer Burger.. or.???

I'm a FOH engineer, yes. I've also done monitors, but FOH is where I mostly reside.

Mackie boards are ok for workmanship, price, features, etc. They just sound like crap.

In what way do you mean? Noisy? Preamps? What is it about Mackie boards that sounds bad to you?

Hey I have a Behringer. It has very low hiss even with headphones on. It’s a eurorack 802a and works pretty good. I use it to easily send multiple stuff to my computer and makes it easier to trim the microphones.
