I've needed an upgrade for a long time but my other hobby is racing cars and having a $30,000 race car in the garage doesn't allow me much $$ for my PC gaming hobby. Anyway here's what I got:
Dell
P3-500, Intel 440BX PCI MB, 256 SDRAM, Nvidia GeForce2 MX with 64 megs, windows 98 2E, 12.7 GB HD @ 7,200 RPM (4.9 gigs free).

I have about $400 to spend for now. I will buy used if it's a bargain. Let me know where you guys think I should start and where the best buys are at.

Thanks,
Gary

You want a bargain? Tell you what, I'll sell you a Powerleap iP3/t slot adapter with built in Voltage Regulation Module (VRM) for $40. There is another brand of adapter that might work, but might cause heat problems on your VRM 8.2 board, so I advise to use only the Powerleap adapter.

With this type of adapter you can use the Tualatin Celeron on your board. The 1.3GHz version is faster than a P4 1.4 and only $49 on Pricewatch. The 1.4GHz version is $62 on Pricewatch

Oh, your board supports 768MB of RAM if you use 256MB modules. The type you need is only $30 at http://www.crucial.com With the fast CPU and extra RAM, your system will perform almost as well as a new Dell, and better than a 1 year old SDRAM Dell P4 system.
