Does anyone know how to run *.exe files in UNIX or Linux computers. I would appreciate any of your suggestions for this problem?

Thanks.

If i understand your problem you wish to execute programs in Linux or Unix? If so you will have to understand that Linux or Unix does not care about "extensions" rather it cares about permitions. If the file is set with permitions to be executed to the certain user or group it will run. if it is not set then it will not.

Why do I use LINUX ? Cause its the BEST OS

You can run win32 programs only if
you use windows emulator wine or
wmware.

Correct answer:

1) do "chmod u+x filename.exe"
2) then execute it by typing "./filename.exe"

Correct Answear?
There is not "correct answear" to an incorrect question.
You would have to know what the user is trying to do to have a correct answear plus he/she must be able to give the file attributes and thus be iyts owner or root.

Furthermore by saying he wishes to run a .exe indicates that the user is trying to run a MS based os app under linux. This would make all of the answears given so far irrelivent since he or she would have top use eitgher wine, vmware,plex86 ,etc to be able to do so.

To say a UNIX based OS does not care about file extensions is a bit of a misleading statement. UNIX typically does not have file extensions is a better way to say it I guess.

And I think this person is wanting to run a Dos/Windows based app using Wine or something. Not a flame, just trying to make sure the poster doesnt think you don't have to type file extensions in UNIX.

Thanks a lot for replies. I would inform my friend (he asked me about it) and he will use wine or vmware. I am not working with Linux that's why I didn't have enough knowledge to answer him. Now I am clear with it. HSG u r right my friend wanted to run Dos/Windows based applications.

Thanks guys.

If the program is only a 16-bit DOS app, he might have better luck with using DOSemu, which may be a bit easier/more stable.
