You're looking for a mobo/processor/ram combo that is 800, or the whole computer is 800?

If you want to go AMD : Asus A7N8X / Athlon XP 2800 (333) / 2 sticks of 256mb corsair xms 3200. That should bring you a grand total of around $750.00. All prices are from http://www.newegg.com

I'll leave the intel recomendations for someone else.

If you allow me I would suggest you:

Processor: XP2400 U$ 185

Mob: ASUS a7n8x or a7v8x or even a7v333 all models are ready for the new generation of athlon processors (120-200)

ram: DDR333 2x 512 = 125 each

total + or - = 615, save 185 to upgrade your processor or your video card within 6 months

Your other possibility is using the new Intel 7205 granite bay chipset. Only listing I can find is for the Asus p4g8x at a place called Myinfinity on pricewatch for $199 (Dec 1st quote). With 4 sticks of 256 meg samsung pc2100 and a p4 2.4b, that will set you back about $680 or so. My 2.4b is running at 2800 on an old sis 645dx board (with an older stepping), so you should be able to do the same on the newer chipset.

My suggestions:

Athlon XP 2600+ (333 MHz FSB) or faster 333 MHz FSB AXP
ASUS A7N8X mobo
Corsair XMS PC2700 (Or faster) CL2.0 DDR RAM 2 sticks x 256 MB
