I started out looking to backup my hardearned rank from COD4 and found that the save game files were for single player only. I didn't realize this until after having copied that entire folder over to my rebuilt system. Back to a private, that sucked. So I have worked up to a 3star general and don't want to give it up. I suspected that my profile was stored online somewhere. Apparently I was wrong, same login and no luck. I decided to use Nero's back up. I backed up the ENTIRE cod4 onto 2 discs. This was done on an Asus P5NE-SLI board. It will be going on an XFX 680i LT board next. The question is, after having done the backup will I be able to install that straight onto a new build with multiplayer profile saved or not? Does anyone have a work-around for this?

Look for your "\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" folder. There should be a folder named "Players"
Just copy that folder and paste it into the new install.

If you are using Vista, then you may need to look at the icons below the address bar, there will be one named, "Compatibility Files" you should find the Players folder in there.

If you've tried all this, then I don't know what else to tell you, but hopefully someone will.

I have a solution, but it is considered a "hack".

The profile is stored on your computer, but it is made in such a way to only work with your current install. If you copy and paste the folder it wont work. There is this program that allows you to store your account in a more native form and then implement it again in a new install. Since as i said it is considered a "hack" , i won't post any links, but feel free to pm me and i will guide you to it.

I don't think that there's any TOS violations in posting links to a mod that functions as a backup utility. It's not like it lets you make a bunch of pirated copies of the whole game, or take over servers.

It's also useful for making a backup copy of your profile, in case of formatting or disk failure.

Yes but the package also comes with an optional level 55 account, which you can use on your own will, but it is still there. Anyway, if anyone wants to get this program, e-mail me. I won't post links here.

Everytime game starts loading "Safehouse"(map)> on Act II in Single Player game CoD4 crashes with iw3sp.exe error message... i tried everything from reinstaling game few times; changing some extensions in CoD4 installation dir; even reinstalig Win XP...ffs
I wanna try copying single player save game files (unlocking all maps)... so i can skip that ^ map and continue playing...
