when I had win 98, I used the sysinfo program to monitor the modem activity.
when it started spitting out crc errors, the connection was pretty much
useless. ie: When I noticed the pages weren't loading 404's for a page I knew
existed, or pix failing to load, etc.. any number of minor problems.

I have to assume that XP has some sort of recovery thing built in to adapt to
these crc errors as I'm sitting here with the network status window open and
it's showing me 245 errors just for the past hour or two @33.6k. I've also
watched a lot of page loading errors for this session.

With win98 I just hung up and redialed to get a better connection. Here in
Florida it's usually underground moisture somewhere between here and there
causing the problem, and a new connection usually brings up a better connection
both faster and clearer.

Is there some way to set up an audible alert for when the network connection
starts kicking out these errors as it was normally faster to just hang up and
make a new connection than wait for the machine to fix itself with win98. And
I'm guessing it would also be faster to hang up with XP and get a new
connection also.
