Pavilion 7870 + firewire card :-(

Hey this is tech support at its worst, I got a call from my bro saying that
he cant get his pc to post after he installed a firewire PCI card...
first thing I told him to do was remove it and see if anything happens..
still nothing...
he said that the power light at the back comes on, and turns off again, and
no movement from the fans.
so next I told him to check that the ram/graphics was plugged in properly
and also check the ide cables as it says to do on hp site... still no joy.
got him to remove the cmos battery for 5 min.. and then plug back in and try
( power was out as well) still no joy...
any other ideas? the pci card isn't connected at the mo
