Heya,

Right, i am inthe market for the new p4 3.06 with the HT, however i would ideally like to run RDRAM PC1066.

Are there anyboards out there which run RAMBUS and also support the Hyperthreading technology on the P4 chip.
I was looking at the Gigabyte GA8INXP, but it supports the DDR.

What setup do you suggest to benefit from the HT? does the 850ie chipset support HT?

Hope you can point me to the light?

Don't invest in RAMBUS. The Gigabyte 8INXP DualDDR board is flat out superior to any 850E board. Better suited for a future upgrade, innovative features - definitly a winner. DDR SDRAM, because of Dual channel, is no longer slower the RDRAM. HT is definetly NOT worth all that extra money. Go for a 2.4B with C1 stepping. Then simply overclock the 2.4B to 3.06GHz by increasing the FSB to 170MHz (680MHz QDR) in the BIOS - set the AGP/PCI buses to 66MHz/33MHz resprectively. You'll achieve better performance this way and you're saving money. For the kind of work your doing, this would be the perfect combo:

Gigabyte 8INXP motherboard
Two quality 512MB DDR400 SDRAM Memory modules

This motheroard doesn't include firewire, so you can add a firewire PCI card for about $15. And i would be interested to know which Graphics card you will use as the 8INXP doesn't support AGP PRO cards (a small list of graphics cards).

AGP Pro is just for a few really really specific cards for very special uses. There is only a couple cards out there that even support it. 99% of users wont want it.

I know this isn't the right forum, but since we're on the topic, what's the differance between an APG pro card and a regular agp card such as a 9700 pro or ti4600?

I honestly dont know what is supposed to be so special about AGP pro. If you want to know I sugest going to the graphics forum anyway because I just dont know. All I know is that they are very specialised cards. Which would proberly mean they are slower than GF4`s or radeons. Proberly designed for quality rather than speed.

AGP Pro was added to provide more power to High-End professional graphics cards. The kind that most people don't use (3DLabs Wildcat 4220 for example). I agree, AGP Pro is a non-issue 99 percent of the time.

I would say Late Dec 2002 to Early Jan 2003. Do a periodic search for it on pricewatch.com and pricegrabber.com.
