Hi,
This may be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. I wondered what the purpose of the second LAN port is on the Asus A7N8X. Can it be used to connect a second computer to share a DSL connection, for example?

To run a proxy server you need 2 nic cards.

when you see smoke is that a good sign?

Since the last guy didn't answer the question, yes. You can use the second port to set up a local intranet connection while using the first for the internet connection, this turns your PC into a web server for another PC (or multiple PC's if you use a hub) when everything is configured properly.

you don't need two NIC cards, just two NIC ports. Many newer boards have a built in NIC, his board has TWO of them.
