system hangs

Cannot get past first screen on a NEC with MSI 6309 &P3. Have taken out all extra cards and hard drive +floppy. PS2 Keyboard does not show any lights i.e CAPS LOCK, pressing F2 for setup or ESC for post has no effect system just stays here. Tried 3 keyboards all PS2. Any help apprieated. thanking you colin5656. new to forums.

1st screen, as in bios boot up screen, ie, detecting cpu.. shows memory size.. etc? any error messages on the screen?

Assuming that you checked all the connections and RAM is correctly seated:

Keyboard doesn't show CAPS LOCK light, but did they even blink? If they are not at least blinking could be a dead CPU, motherboard or PSU or check if the motherboard has any short with the case.
