When i play counter strike source on my pc i get about not more than 12 fps if theres more than 8 people on a server.
When I play on some map like rebel resistance my fps goes up to 40-70fps average but only when theres about 6 people on the server, which is much better.
I dont know why this is only happening on some maps and not all of them,
I have updated drivers and have do virus checks often

my pc specs are:
celeron d 2.4ghz
1.25gb ddr ram
geforce 6200 265mb agp x8
80gig hdd

Can anyone help me please it would be much appreciated.

Including the resolution?

Make sure you have no programs running in the background. I'd say your cpu just can't handle the map and 8 players.

ive lowered the resolution but still its the same. The normal resolution i use is 1024 x 728 but i lowered it to 640x 480 and still the same.

That further points to the fact that your cpu just isn't good enough. Time for a whole new system if you ask me.

yeah i'm afraid to have to tell you - the maps you can deal with are probably ones that dont have textures - your computer is JUST TOO OLD - and herin lies the probem with PC gaming - the need to upgrade

Yeah get some new hardware. That thing is almost as ancient as the PC I'm using now (I'm getting my Newegg order tomorrow though :D)

Large maps (don't play CS so don't know maps) will work a CPU a lot more. This goes back to the days of DOOM 1, Descent 1, and Duke Nukem even. Big maps need more power. Check the scale of the map, if it's huge and your slow there ya go. Also, the more peeps on the server the more power you need to track them.

Any yes, your hardware is getting.... umm... tired.

One word - processor.

I had a slightly similar problem to yours.

I had a 6200 Nvidia PCI, 512mb ram, and a P4 2.4. I tried upgrading ram, didn't work. Bought a whole new computer and it was a P4 3.0ghz and even with 2 gigs of ram and a ATI 1950x GT andmy fps would go down to the 20's. I actually bought an e6750 core 2 duo today and I checked my fps on source and it's a consistent 60.

Wow. I had a P43.2GHz, 2GB DDR800 and a X850XT PE and I never had that kind of problem when playing HL2 Death Match or CS:S. And when I upgraded to a P4 3.4GHzEE it got better. And my new system TF2 will dip to 70 and jump over 250+ and average around 150FPS and thats at 1280x1024.

His main problem if the CPU more than the VGA as Source is very CPU intensive. But yea an overall new PC will do you wounders in CS:S
