Basically like the titles says.. got a new Q6600 and eVGA 8800GT and looking for something to show it off. Opinions on the most/best graphic intense game out there currently.
P5K-E LGA
Antec Nine Hundred
2* 7200.11 seagates
Vista 64 bit
EVGA GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit
CoD4 and Bioshock look decent. I've heard good things about STALKER as well.
Hmm... maybe Doom? Never played it, but it seems to use shadows pretty well.
Oh, if you can to scare people, get F.E.A.R. While it doesn't look fantastic, it looks good enough... especially when it starts getting into some really freaky horror-movie'esque scenes. I wouldn't use this to showcase graphics capabilities though. I still think Crysis w/ cranked effects is the best for that.
Single link DVI (DVI-I) maxes out at 1600x1200 (1920x1200 is achieved with reduced "blanking" signaling) Double link DVI (DVI-D) maxes out at 3200x2400 (3840x2400 can be achieved with reduced "blanking" signaling). For even bigger resolutions than 3840x2400, only analog signal can be used.
Visually, I don't believe there is a difference if you keep yourself within the resolutions defined above.

So if I am running for the desktop 1920x1200, not sure that I would want to figure the monitor being 24', I will want the resolution to be tighter. If I want to run 1920x1200, would I need a DVI (DVI-D) cable to in these mode. Just not sure what "(1920x1200 is achieved with reduced "blanking" signaling)" means.
It's not the blood that disturbs me, it's the weird little crab-walking girl and the things that keep popping out at me... lol. They also like to point you down a dim-lit corridor every once in a while... "You're like, I don't want to go down there... but there is no other way >_>. Then you'll get like half-way down and the lights will cut off. AHHHHHHHH!" I won't spoil what happens next.
well my new favourite game the witcher has to get a mention, nice gfx apart from the skies, not idea what they were doing there, if only they had the skies of oblivion*sigh*
Crysis by far, then Oblivion and UT3, of all the others COD4 is next,Q4, ETQW, BioShock and Doom3 is last but it's the oldest, the games last year just got better each time, didnt thinks GoW was that good, have not played FEAR or Witcher or HellGate
If you lets us know what type of game you like the most we might be able to tell you something that looks great and at the same time something you'll enjoy playing.

Are you serious? Seemed you didn't like it from the start.
Mine is added to the other games not installed yet, and that list is long unfortunately.
Crysis, COD4, Fear, Oblivion, and HL2 episode 2 & TF2 (orange box) too good not to include and dated source is still looking great IMO. http://pc.ign.com/articles/825/825992p1.html
BTW, may not be wise to start with crysis as it's the one game here your system will really struggle in. May as well enjoy some other beautiful games at max details first.

What does it take not to struggle? Dual GTS 8800s?

Depends on the resolution. The system doesn't exist yet that can handle max (very high) details, high resolution, and fsaa. I can play 1680x1050 High details and 2xaa/16xaf. SLi does well in crysis though. One 8800GT could probably handle very high details no fsaa at a lower resolution 12x10 or 14x9. But it would slow down later in the game. My point is if you want to see the best graphics currently out in a game try crysis. But keep in mind unlike most other games, you won't be able to just go in and crank all the settings to max.

Need to add the "Beautiful People" mod to Oblivion. That makes it look that much better.
HL2 Episode 2, the last battle is great for both graphics and physics, especially when the striders use the weird gun on the buildings.

Yeah I noticed when talking to people in Oblivion they were all very unemotional, this is not the case in Witcher, try the demo.
Guess what Chris just go onto download.com or where ever and download all the demo's for the games we mentioned with the exception of hl orange box, just plain old go out and buy that, everyone should have that anyways, everyone enjoys hl.
Demos for this weekend:
UT3
Crysis,
Witcher
cod4.
You simply must try Crysis. On my 8800GTS G92 I can just barely play Very High at 1680x1050. It isn't a perfect experience, but it's fast enough where I can truly appreciate the graphics.
The "Bullet time" in FEAR is something to behold the first time you see it (with a good PC).
My non-gamer friends were quite impressed.
For "bullet-time" the best games are and always will be Max Payne 1 & 2. I wish they were making a third one though cuz I wanna run around shooting people in slo-mo while getting shot and never feeling it.
