Fax Console remains active...

....after faxing and attempts to answer the phone, which is not what I
want. I initially posted a similar message to this one on Aug 6 and
receive a response from John Allen (see below), but had not followed up
on this since we were hit by Hurricane Charley a few days later (and
subsequent hurricanes).

Anyway, I'm still having the same problem wherein the program
<fxssvc.exe> remains an active process running in the background and I
find no way to delete it unless going through the Task Mgr and manually
doing so. Is there a way to even prevent the auto-answer from remaining
active?

I use DSL for my internet and only use the modem for faxes, so the only
time it is called up is by XP's fax console as I attempt to fax a
document. John Allen's suggestions were both followed but found to be
irrelevant since the modem driver I have is the current and latest
version and I use a DSL to go online...the only question is if it is due
to a firewall issue, I use ZoneLabs' Zone Alarm Pro and wouldn't even
begin to know what to look for that would keep the app in memory...

Any other suggestions?

It should work. A couple of suggestions:

1. After faxing, can you then connect to the internet? If so, then
the problem may be with the software you are using to directly connect
to the other computer.

2. Maybe third party firewall interfering,

John Allen

I no longer have the fax console installed but if I remember correctly,
there are settings within the fax console menus that allow you to
enable/disable auto-answer.

Even with auto-answer disabled, the process may stay in memory for a bit
after the program has closed. At least this has historically been true for
other versions of MS fax programs. With auto-answer disabled, it will
eventually drop out of memory. However, if you need it ended sooner you
will need to use Task Manager.
