Hey guys !

I installed a new sound card (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer) and it works really well.

The only problem is that it seems not to work with Steam.

When I launch Steam, every sounds, including Windows and other non-steam-related sounds, are totally
messed up.

And as soon as I exit Steam, everything works fine.

Just an example: I play CoD4 and if I play it without launching Steam behind it, it works well and when I play it with Steam activated, the sound is messed up.

I have the latest driver and I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

Can someone help me please ? Thank you !

Not sure really, try changing the sound settings in a few games in steam to EAX or turn off sound then reenable it. Failing that a reinstall of steam could be in order.

Thats weird. I have the same card but its the X-Fi XtremGamer Fatality Pro edition and am using Windows Vista Premium 32bit and have yet to have any sound problems on Steam.

One problem though was if I set it to anything but gamer and restarted the PC it would have weird noise. But change it to gamer mode and back worked well for me.

Try and make sue that it is set to gamer mode then try again. But I installed my sound card about 3 months after building my PC and had Steam and it has no sound problems. And yes those sound cards are well worth it and rock.
