So many of my friends have Guitar Hero for their gaming console but I don't have a console and am wanting to play the game. I don't have a good enough computer to play the game right but I'm looking at upgrading to Core 2 Duo system.

On the system requirements for the game it has two recommended video cards: the 8800 gt and the hd 2600. It has a list of supported graphic chipsets and the card I was thinking about, the 8600gt isn't on that list. The thing that confuses me is, why would Aspyr recommend a hd 2600 card or the 8800gt? I mean the 8800gt is vastly superior to the hd 2600 and the 2600 is comparable to 8600gt.

Anyone know whether the 8600 will work with this game?

maybe at lower resolutions hard to tell ive heard this game is very buggy and computers at the recommended spec are slow and laggy

It will most certainly play on a 8600GT, I have a 7900GT, and i play it at 1280x1024 with only a few settings disabled.
The stuttering that most people experience is due to the game being badly optimised and waiting for a dvd read for some reason. I had this myself. Fixed it with a no-cd patch :p

recommended specs include:
-no life
-un-showered
-being a loser
-no musical ability's what-so-ever

Thanks Light. I appreciate the help. I might end up having to go with the 8800 simply because I have a 1600x1200 resolution montior or just buying a gaming console (which is probably what I'll do).
