Hi Guys,
I am running XP Home SP1 for a while, and I have this problem, When
I reboot, and try to connect to internet, modem not recognized. But,
if I right click My computer-Properties-System
Properties-Hardware-Device Mg-+modems and uninstall my modem (which is
about a year old US Robotics V90-V92 56K Fax/Modem) and then boot
again, my modem is recognized. If I remember to uninstall modem before
I reboot, then no problems. When I was running Win 98se up until about
3 months ago and the problem never cropped up. I had been running 98se
for years. I don't know if this is related to the modem problem, I
suspect it is. Independantly of the modem disconnect, and never
happening at the same time, my internet connection is not recognized.
This happens after boot also, but only every once in a while. I have
to delete the connection, make a new connection, enter the exact same
information, and voila, problem solved. I have SP2 on CD, and I am
hesitating about installing it, the modem & ISP problem being one of
the reasons, another being CD Burner not showing up in My Computer, or
not found when using Run, making it un usable. It is set up correctly
on the cable, and shorted correctly on burner itself. It is recognized
correctly in the BIOS, the light works, so I figure its not a power
problem, and the IDE cable has been tried on other devices and works
fine. I have tried it as master and slave on both IDEs either alone on
cable, or with CD-Rom, or With C-Drive, over 8gb free or D drive 60gb
free.
Thanks a lot for listening!
