5-10% increase over 5800 performance? That seems completely expected, since it is technology being released 6 months AFTER the 5800 cards. Still though - 600MHz ranges on the clocks?

Assuming that everything is right, the 470 will be decent competition for the 5850 and the 480 will be not too decent competition for the 5870 (a bit better then the 295)
And that's without the ATI price drops and the 5890 to come.

" GeForce GTX 480 : 512 SP, 384-bit, 295W TDP, US$499

GeForce GTX 470 : 448 SP, 320-bit, 225W TDP, US$349

Internal benchmarks reveal that GeForce GTX 470 is some 5-10% faster than Radeon HD 5850 and similiar [sic] for GeForce GTX 480 over the Radeon HD 5870."

That is all fail, no one in their right mind would buy a GTX 480 with a TPD of 295w over a 5870 with a TPD of 188w for a 5-10% boost, especially since the GTX 480 wont be clocking very high at those power levels.

I am taking this with a grain of salt, possibly a wishful one.

Why would anyone get a GTX480 over a 5870 and pay a hefty premium to get 5-10% increase in performance? You can get a 5870 for ~410, while the MSRP for a GTX480 would be 499$, but we all know the real price would be 530$+ when it hits the market.

So why anyone would pay around 110$ more when there clearly is a better option, not to mention future price drops of the 5xxx series due to competition?

295w tdp! WOW!

so needless to say there will not be a dual gpu part from nvidia for a looooooooooooong time. . . . . like 1.5 years or more.

and im thinking a 5870 @ 1ghz gpu and oh 5200mhz mem will take the green boar down with ease.

well, the card looks awesome for starters. given specs are meh, but we all know nvidia and ati's architecture is so different specs comparison is useless. time and benchmarks will tell....

I'm I the only one very disappointed with those numbers? and for a while there I though I might regret buying a 5870, nope!

5-10% faster than a 5870 at 295W TDP? That's the same as the 5970 which i'm sure is much more than 5-10% faster than the GTX 480.

Just thinking about it, wouldn't it make sense for ATI to lower costs BEFORE nvidia rolls their cards out? Then people will see the price/performance value with lower priced ATI cards VS high priced Nvidia cards. Just a thought...

I see an HDMI port. It's all about the tessellation and ATI can't do it. Simple as that. That is what you are paying extra for.

[citation][nom]Requiemsallure[/nom]lol that picture is bs, why would either the 470 or the 480 have only two DVI ports, no HDMI? DISPLAY PORT? i think this is a hoax.[/citation]

Mabye no standered Hdmi port, although it has mini HDMI port....

Nvidia blasts other companies about unfair practices yet it can't even deliver competitive products with an extra six months. Karma.

A) There is no HDMI port in that picture.

B) There is no reason why these cards will outperform the 5xxx series enough with tessellation, if at all, to justify the extra cost.

C) By the time tessellation is anything more than a wet dream, both series will be old news and under-performing.

That's a good price for the 470. The problem is, ATI is probabbly ready to sell the 5850 at an even better price.

5% - 10% faster really isn't that much.

ports take power guys, and the 480 is right on the limits so no fancy stuff like displayport.

I didnt understand it fully before, but now it makes so much sense.

fermi must have been way worse than the 5870 six months ago - thats why its taken so long to get it released. it has taken six months to get the top fermi part faster than the 5870, so only now can nVidia release it.

too bad its gonna be beaten easily by any 1ghz 5870 and the 5870 2gb version. obviously, it doesnt even get close to the 5970.

sad times for nVidia.

What the hell is that HDMI look-alike port right next to the DVI port then?
