I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe nVidia mobo and I can't get the onboard sound to work. I only have two desktop speakers right now. But I get no sound. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Try enabling it in the BIOS. You may have to clear the CMOS memory(<A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=527833#527833" target="_new">process described in this thread</A> ). Did the package come with a CD with drivers on it. Install the sound drivers.

I installed the sound drivers that came on the disc.  I will check the bios.  It will probably be something that simple.  lol

I checked and it is enabled in the bios.  The AC97 Audio Controller is set to Auto.  That is the only reference to audio I saw.

I have already cleared the CMOS memory.  I had to do that just to get the system to boot.  Let me know if anything else comes to mind.

By the way do you know what the FSB spread spectrum and the AGP spread spectrum are?  Both are disabled.  I don't think they have anything to do with audio, just curious.

Thanks.

Confiscated this from google groups:

Question:
<i>Does anyone know what FSB Spread Spectrum and AGP Spread Spectrum are all about?</i>

Answer:
<i>Standard technology on most boards for the last few years. Instead of feeding a constant clock to the devices, the frequency is 'shuffled' up and down by a tiny percentage, using a pseudo random pattern. It 'spreads out' the frequency peaks produced, and reduces the maximum value of these to allow the boards to give lower EMC noise readings. Does nothing for performance (may degrade it a little), so unless you are having an interference problem, or are worried about EMC noise, set them to disabled...</i>

I would uninstall the current audio drivers and install the audio drivers available on Asus' website, making sure to pick the drivers specific to your particular operating system if possible. Also make sure the speakers are plugged into the proper jack on the motherboard before proceeding to other solutions.

It could be an issue with digital/analog speakers and whether the audio output is digital/analog.  My friend had trouble with some boston acoustic speakers that were for digital out only.

yeah, disable the digital and check the audio, and the sound drivers on website improved my sound quality, had a pulsing sound when using teamspeak till i updated.  double check all the volume levels too!  specify 2 speaker... uhh whatelse... try 6channel and plug speakers into center or rear and run the test to see if that plug is bad, try different speakers. kick pc...  just keep hitting that TEST button in the nforce sound menu, its pretty nice sound once you get it going, not even bottering putting in my audigy platinum now!

Why don't you send that audigy to me so I can do some testing on my system.

lol.  I didn't think that would work.

Thanks for the help.

I disabled the digital.  Actually it was already disabled.  I am downloading the new drivers right now.

I tried 6 channel and 4 channel.  I can plug my two speaker setup into the rear channel and get sound when playing a CD.  Still don't get Windows sounds.  I guess Windows sounds don't have a rear channel aspect.  The test button works and tells me I have left and right surround.  Sure seems like my jack is bad.  What do you think?  Can anything else cause this?

Oh.  I didn't mention before, but when I open the Nvidia control panel -> main tab the speaker output levels indicate sound on the left and right channel.  That indicates that the sound is there it just doesn't make it to the speakers right?  I mean it doesn't seem like a problem with drivers or software.

I don't think I'll kick the computer.

Thanks for your help.

So how is the Audigy 2 Platinum?  How many speakers do you have connected?

Actually, it could be the jacks...
On my a7n8x the cntr/lfe jack is faulty... It ouputs center to the sub channel and sub to the center channel..!
Fixed it by rewireing my connector cable (from jack to speaker system) so that they are changed back....
Works fine now...

That's not a knife... THIS is a knife!
