Thought I'd start a thread about great deals on craigslist... If this doesn't fit this section... sorry !

Anyhow : I've gotten 2 insane deals this week off of craigslist. 2 days ago I got 8 146gb 10k HP scsi drives for $400, all new in HP boxes..> I'd actually listed 4 on ebay prior to even picking them up and they sold @ $133/drive prior to even having them, then got them home and listed the other 4 and same person bought them.. so $1050 or so for all of the drives.

yesterday, this guy listed an attempted build. He didn't put standoffs in the case and so the motherboard was grounded and would not boot, he'd just had it sitting in a closet he says... anyhow.> $125 for a coolermaster mystique case (basically new, still w\ plastic) dvdrw, cdrw/dvd, core2 E6750, EVGA 8600GTS, Asus P5QSLI mobo and 600w coolermaster psu...

anybody else getting crazy deals on craigslist?

I have to say there is many scams in my area also. Rockford, Chicago. One guy had a tower only 955 build with just one 4870 for $2200, 4 gb of ram, 1 tb blue WD I think.... build might have cost him $1200 to build.

Best deal I have found so far is the 939 X 2 3800 dual core and Biostar 6100M-9 motherboard, and 2 gb of Buffalo ram I picked up for $50 a few months back. The ram is junk, and so is the board, very buggy but the processor put new life in a emachine store bought with only a 4000 single core.

I did get a low end case and Antec 550 watt PSU for only $25, and the PSU works good, so that was a good deal.

I think its hit and mis with CL. I sold my Jetway HA04 extreme, a custom Rosewill cooler I modded with a 120 mm fan, lapped it, and modded the bracket to point the right way on a AM2+ motherboard, and my 9850 B.E. For only $180 bucks. So IMO he got a good deal on it.

I'm in Dallas... but craigslist is going to vary of course by area.

Tons of scams, but once in a while you get a really good deal. The "as-is" Q6700 system I bought 2 weeks ago for $200, I found out works fine... the Geek Squad tech who sold it to me apparently didn't throrougly troubleshoot it. I pulled the cmos battery and it booted fine.

Q6700 w\ stock cooler,
6gb (3x2gb) corsair ddr-6400
700w rocketfish modularpsu
450w visiontek sli add-in psu
hp case

Pretty good for $200 I think.

Selling stuff on craigslist has changed alot though. I was selling alot of stuff back almost 2 years ago and I was making a good amount of money selling used dells but now that they're worth like... $100 there's no money to be made.

And there area always crazy people like this guy.... who think their 2 year old gaming computer is still worth $3,000

I built an i7 system with most intention to sell it, and I wound up selling the board, cpu, ram, and cooler, and 300gb velociraptor for $900 this past week... posts like this are really common though, people have these builds that probably did cost them an arm and a leg when the Q6600 first came out, but now they're worth like... 25% of what they initially paid and maybe less.

I have to agree, I see retards on craigslist all the time trying to sell stuff like that. I love it when they put on there ultimate gaming rig $1400 and it turns out to have a Nvida 8400gs and a x 2 6000, now that is funny. I wonder if these guys ever really sell this to people?

Oh yeah btw, one of there best sales pitchs "This rig can handle any game out there" they should put a little * and a caption in very small print, *"only if you don't play new games and turn down the settings to very low and slow"

I'm watching an ebay auction for 2 2.66ghz 1333fsb xeons to go w\ the board... Hopefully they dont go up too high. They're currently @ $55 for the pair !

I picked up a lot of computer games (30) off craigslist with the intentions of just selling one of the games listed (NASCAR RACING SEASON 2003). Picked up the lot for $20 sold NR2K3 for $75 on fleabay. Kept the other games as they won't bring what its worth with seller fees and paypal percentage off. As to hardware I haven't really ran across anything killer before. Other then a few years back getting a BNIB Act Labs ForceRS with shifter 4-5 different plates the clutch pedal setup, loads of spare springs and belts, a spare wheel and shifter and standard pedals for $60. Drove from FTW to Grapevine for that pickup.

Other then that I get most of my stuff on hardware forums. Ebay clowns are just as dumb as most that sell on CL.

This is depressing...

In my area, all that people sell is pentium 4's.
A Pentium D is a extreme rarity...
Guess Canadians are no good with Craigslist... (oh yeah, we all use eBay in my city).

A month ago someone offered a watercooled i7 with dual GTX 280s... for $2,500.
And some guy is offering a i7 965 for $800 CAD apparantly still in box.
...
That's all...

I guess its back to NCIX for me...

A lot of times, people don't know what they have or can't assemble it properly. they give up, you swoop in like a vulture. helps when you live and work in Silicon Valley, super active CL. Iv'e been able to pick up components very cheaply over the years. Only 2 bad pieces of kit.

The Obama administration is VERY capitalistic still, don't worry my friend.
Such as... the "Buy American" policy... it's hurting my company heavily, and we're forced to deal with a chinese company at heavily reduced profit..

Canada is more socialist then U.S.A. anyways. I like socialism.

They only go away if we let them be taken away. There was a time in this country, people serving on Jury's were told, by the Judge that if they thought a law on the books was wrong, That they didn't have convict the accused... My how times have changed, no longer is that fact said to a Jury even though it still the way it is and is there right to do so. It was one of the best checks and balance's put into place in this country, and yet many don't have a clue about it or simply just don't care. VERY SAD.

Then we have no one but ourselves to thank for this. "For it is said in a nation of free men, Those who expect to be ignorant and free, expect something that never was or shall be"

That's so true, as much as i hate to say it, we live in a country where ignorance is the defining trait of a good majority of voters. So what happens is, people vote according to how they feel about a given subject, not thinking objectively.

Just a reminder of safety when dealing with craigslist.. everybody should know that nobody is going to give you anything if you wire them money w\ western union. They're just going to steal your money.

The real purpose of this post though.> physical safety. If you're going to buy something from craigslist of moderate value... meet in a public place, starbucks is popular. If it's something of more value like... say a highend server or a car or something... Then surely the seller knows what paypal is and would have no problem setting up a private ebay auction so that your money is protected via paypal and both parties are happy.

I'm posting because my dad knows I do alot of craigslist and he said one of his co-workers was going to buy a car ($1500) and went to meet this guy, which was actually 2 guys armed w\ guns. They demanded money and instead of giving up his money, the guy tried to drive off and was shot in the process.

Kinda an isolated incident but still... be careful. If you have a bad feeling about somebody that's trying to buy something from you or sell you something, be careful.

If you don't have paypal... something is wrong with you, really.

A lot of people have reason to not like Paypal. I have personally been burned by paypal for $600 as a seller. Overall I think paypal is a good thing, but nothing is perfect.

thanks for the warnings, but there is nothing wrong with people who do not like paypal. Do a search for paypal suck and you'll find thousands of sites dedicated to paypal haters worldwide.

Interesting...
And yeah, many people dislike payPal (such as myself, I just use a prepaid credit card usually).

Good advice on the point of sale security, will keep that in mind.

Honestly though... saying you're selling a car for cheap and cash only does sound like a way to make a lot of cash quickly. -_-
