It's a server chipset that supports dual ddram (must be used in pairs like rdram). Sis may have a similar chipset known as the 655 in a month or two.

what is dual ddr? does it just require you to have DDR installed in pairs? is this better then installing a single 512mb stick instead of dual 256mb sticks?

Dual-channel doubles peak memory bandwidth. Install the memory in pairs. Two 256MB sticks would be better.
