I have an OEM system that came with WIN XP Home edition, I
decided to upgrade the OS to XP Professional, the system
crash in the middle of the installation giving a
0x000000C2 error.

I want to revert the installation and forget about XP
professional, I'm unable to restart the system in Safe
mode nor I'm able to re-build the system with the OEM CD.
The only thing the system does is to go back to the XP Pro
install process.

Please help.

If you choose one system or the other, clean install
them, you will have less issues ( though a clean install
of XP Pro is recommended and not upgrade XP home in this
manner).

Recommended by whom, precisely? Anyone with any experience with
the OS?

WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing operating
system while simultaneously preserving your applications and data, and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. The upgrade from
WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, almost always goes smoothly,
as both operating systems use the same kernel.
