On my dad's system, it is restarting regurarly once you first turn on the system. Once it has been on a while it is perfectly stable, except for initially starting it up. I checked the WinXp log and found this about 15 times.

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0xcf8), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

Please translate as to what this means or a fix?

Mobo = Asus k7v133 , Slot A 700 processor, WinXP pro clean install , matrox g400 video card. The Bios version is 1005. Thanks.

could it be a problem in the Bois config? hmmmmmm never encountered it... Is it at the startup? Is it occuring during the checkup (before winxp boots up) Or is it happening when windows is loading? It could be a possible conflict in the I/O setup due to a little misser in the bois setup (i once have had it with my former pentium 500 on an asus p2b-b motherboard) and i only could change it by restoring the bios defaults, and then redo all the configurations.....

but i don't know if it would help you further...

the problem i encountered was very the same like, but you never know in computer world...

otherwise it could be that there is a problem with winXP and the equipment... What OS was first installed on the comp?

Enosi and I....
