More Information

I've had the Gigabyte 8SG667 board for two days now, and I occasionally experience the following:
Running under WindowsXP I've had to restart the system several times - due to several driver installations (== I've installed WindowsXp again!).
Sometime after the system shuts down, and before it begins to load (meaning: after boot) and shows the memory - it hangs.
That is: it passes the state where it says: "System health OK", but doesn't show other lines like: DDR400 and the harddisks.
This happened a couple of times - but not always.
Twice it happened that it managed to pass the memory tests (showed DDR400), but didn't show the harddisks (and hanged).

A normal boot says: "system health ok", then "DDR400", then the list of harddisks and CD-ROMs.
And finally - WindowsXp loads.

Has anyone experienced such behavior? How do I make it work?

I have the following:
Pentium 2.4B
Gigabyte 8SG667 (sis648)
GeForce2 GTS
Asus DVD (x16)
Teac burner (x40)
10Gigs WesternDigital HD
10Gigs IBM HD.

I've configured both Harddisks to work on the Primary IDE (WD - as Master, IBM - as Slave).
The Teac burner and Asus DVD reader are configured on the Secondary IDE (Teac - as Master, Asus - as Slave).

Waiting, Dashut.

If you have version 2.0 of the 8sg667, I would first try boosting the voltage of the ddram to 2.6 or 2.7. I would also check your 12v and 5v rail readings in the bios hardware monitor. They should be between 11.7-12.1 and 4.9-5.05. What brand and wattage of power supply do you have?

Thanks for the quick response.

I'll have to check the bios version (I'm currently at work...).
About the power supply, its: HEC 475DVD.
I haven't found the spec for it anywhere! But it cost me quite a bit.
That is to say: that the Computer case (COMPUCASE Midi Tower CI-6A19) originally came with HEC 300 (and I asked to replace it for a stronger power supply - supposedly HEC 475).

I'll write soon about the voltage level (if I'll find where to look for it in the Bios), Dashut.

Do you even know what kind of memory you're running?

You're posting in a forum with class. It may be third class, but it's still class!

Hello,

I have this MB for a month, and still good so far.
My system:
GA-8SG667
Corsair XMS 512MB DDR400 CAS 2
WD 80GB HD 8MB buffer
LiteOn 48x24x48x CD-RW
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 128MB
Intel P4 2.4GHz

Okay here goes:
I didn't find the voltage level in the Bios. I guess that I don't have version 2.0 (that probably does have it).
However, I did reload optimized settings and reinstalled WindosXp.
I haven't experienced any problems since.
I've also added Radeon 9700 pro and Creative Audigy 2 Plat.

The memory I'm using is: Corsair XMS-512 C2 DDR400 (3200).
I also checked the parameters of my power supply, and I found that on the +12V rail (which is the most critical, since it holds the CPU and harddisks) the maximum current is 18A.

Thank you all for your time, Dashut.
