I need help. Acually my friend needs help. He has:
amd athlon thunderbird 1.2 266fsb
128 mb pc133 ram (cl 3)
segate 40 gb (7200 rps)
ati radeon 7200 32ddr
usb 1.1 card
fact is he had no idea what he was doing when he first set up his computer and it has never run well.
After he spent way to much money bulding it and getting a proffesional to "fix" it for him it runs slow. Well I took a peep inside and found the fsb set to 100mhz so of corse i changed it to 133 as it should be but now it stalls. It runs well until it stalls. Windows closes and the computer stays on with the monitor off.
Please help cause now he blames his predicament on me.
I have already tried installing the latest drivers off of MSI's website and ATI's site
Edited by jagedlion on 12/25/02 00:16 AM.

Are you talking about the MSI K7Turbo2 board? That board has the additional 4 pin power connector. Does your friend have a power supply with that connector and is it hooked up?
Secondly, that board uses the KT133 chipset from Via. Have you installed the 4 in 1 drivers?
Other than that, it sounds like you may need to just reinstall Windows from scratch... you may have some software problems and a fresh reload would be your next step. And if that doesn't fix things, you need to start swapping parts out to see if you can isolate the problem. I'd start with the memory and try a different stick.
(I have this board and it has run flawlessly for me for the past year. I run it 24/7 on SETI with an XP1700+ chip. Heck, I even overclock it a bit and it still runs solid! So it's not a bad board.)
