So, as others, I have noticed the insane skyrocket in memory prices on Newegg.com.
So, I contacted Newegg asking them about this.
The rep offered me a $25 credit on my account to accomodate for it.
System says, Hello my name is Shelly. How may I help you today?
Me: Hello.
Me: I would like to enquire into the recent dramatic raise on DDR2 prices.
Me: I`m getting ready to order 4GB (2x2) and notice some of the prices have doubled.
Me: Only a few months back 4GD (2x2) DDR2 sets could be picked up for $35-$40 (without a MIR). Now the cheapest set is a $70 DDR3 set, and the cheapêst DDR2 set is $74
Shelly says, Please kindly note that every product we carry is listed on our website, pricing and availability are posted in real time. We do not offer any sort of price protection. Due to the constant fluctuation of prices in this industry, the cost of our inventory is changing regularly. Items costs on our website reflect this, as they are adjusted daily. Our product pricing is determined by our Marketing and Purchasing departments collaboratively due to various circumstances.
Shelly says, For your reference, Newegg also has an option called ‘Price Alert’, which you enter in your information (i.e. email address) and the maximum price you would pay for this item. If the price of this item reaches the one that you have entered. You will be emailed an alert of the reduced price on the requested item.
Me: Newegg.com used to be one of the cheapest etailers for picking up memory. Now Newegg.com apparantly is more expensive then all of the competition...
Shelly says, May I please have the item number located at the top of the item description page? It begins with N82E168.
Shelly says, Due to this inconvenience and as you are our valued customer, I will go ahead and make an exception to offer you $25.00 discount on your next order if you order this item. The discount will be noted under your account and you can contact us at any time to redeem that. Please reply to Shelly.S.Zhang@newegg.com with your new order number once it delivered, I will then more than happy to issue the credit into your account.
Me: Thank you very much Shelly.
Shelly says, No problem at all. Was I able to resolve your issue or answer all your questions today?
Me: My problem was resolved, but my question was only partially resolved.
Shelly says, Is there anything else I can assist you ?
Me: No.
Shelly says, Thank you for contacting Newegg. I hope you have an eggcellent day!
So, if anyone wants to go and use that $25 rebate, go right ahead. I don't even have a Newegg.com account (though I do have a Newegg.ca account, which I wasn't on). I use NCIX.com anyways.
P.S. To find their cheapest set, you have to directly search for the term '4GB', as using the menu to select memory, DDR2, 4GB, that $74 set is the cheapest you'll find. Apparantly they need to do some inventory cataloging...
I just called newegg and they issued me a $33 credit to my account for a 4Gb kit. I had to reference my last order of memory and they matched the price.
